What is agent-based pricing?

In short. Agent-based pricing charges a fee for each AI agent a customer puts to work, much like paying for a digital worker, instead of a fee per human user.
Example in a B2B tech company
A sales AI vendor charges a fixed monthly fee for each SDR agent a customer switches on.
How it works
Each agent, such as a sales development agent or a support agent, has a monthly or yearly fee, often with included usage and a charge above it. Buyers tend to compare the fee with the cost of the work the agent takes on.
When it fits
The agent does one clear job; buyers plan in headcount budgets; use per agent is fairly stable.
Watch out for
Buyers who compare the fee with a salary may expect results like a person's. Heavy use per agent raises your model costs, so add limits or a charge above the included usage.
Common questions
How is it different from per-seat pricing?
Per-seat pricing charges per human user. Agent-based pricing charges per agent at work, whether or not people log in.
Agent-based or outcome-based?
Agent-based is easier to bill and forecast. Outcome-based ties price to results but needs an outcome both sides can count and trust.

- Outcome-based pricing: Charging for a result delivered instead of access or usage.
- Per-seat pricing: Charging per named user. It fits well when value grows with the number of people who use the product.
- Token-based pricing: Charging for AI usage per token, the small chunks of text a model reads and writes.
- Usage-based pricing: Customers pay for what they use instead of a fixed fee.
